Choosing Your Perfect St. Thomas Wedding Location

When you think of a wedding venue on St. Thomas, you usually think of a beach. We have some of the most spectacular beaches in the Caribbean. But the island has more to offer than sand and surf. Tropical gardens, historic colonial buildings, private villas, and even a neighboring island are all on the table.

I've performed weddings at every location on this list. What follows are honest, firsthand assessments — the good, the great, and the occasional "watch out for this." Hopefully I've given you enough to make an informed and inspired choice.

☀️
The Golden Rule of St. Thomas Beach Weddings

I recommend having the ceremony before 11am or after 2pm. The midday Caribbean sun is intense and there is very little shade on most beaches. Morning light is soft and dreamy. Sunset light is romantic and magical. A noon wedding isn't awful, just don't make your groom wear a black tuxedo.

The 9 Best Wedding Venues in St. Thomas

Every venue below is one I've personally worked at — honest assessments, no fluff.

Bride and groom ceremony at Magens Bay Beach St. Thomas USVI — calm turquoise water and white sand

⭐ Top Pick

Magens Bay Beach

Magens Bay is St. Thomas's most iconic wedding beach — nearly a mile of white sand cradled in a sheltered north-shore bay. The water is usually like glass, calm enough for the two of you to stand knee-deep in clear blue water while saying your vows. My favorite spot? Towards the left side of the beach, where you'll almost always find a quieter pocket away from the day-trippers.

I'd probably call it a tie with Sapphire Beach for my personal favorite. But when it comes to ease, amenities, and sheer drop-dead beauty, Magens Bay is hard to beat. After a morning ceremony, spend the rest of the day here — there's a beach bar, gift shop, beach chairs, a coconut grove for photos, and even a nature trail. There's also an active taxi stand right near the entrance so transportation is simple.

Fees are collected in cash or by credit card at the park entrance on the day of the wedding. The park system maintains the beach — they're friendly and make the process easy.

Lindquist Beach (Smith Bay Park)

Lindquist is less than half the size of Magens Bay, but it punches well above its weight in terms of sheer visual drama. One of my favorite ceremony spots is on the tiny point at the far left side of the beach — you get Jost Van Dyke and Tortola of the British Virgin Islands as a backdrop for your wedding photographs. Simply spectacular.

The water here produces some of the best wedding photographs I've seen in 10+ years. Sparkling blue, crystal clear. Because it's a less-traveled beach, we almost always find a quiet, intimate spot. The downside: minimal amenities. Bathrooms and showers are the extent of the extras. Bring your own food, water, and towels if you're spending the day.

⚠️ Sargassum Warning: In recent years, Lindquist has been hit with seaweed from approximately May through September. When the seaweed is bad, Lindquist is not an option. Always check current conditions before booking.
Pretty Klip Point jetty at Sapphire Beach St. Thomas — ocean surrounds on three sides

🌊 Two Venues in One

Sapphire Beach & Pretty Klip Point

Sapphire Beach has beautiful, vibrant blue water and towering palms swaying in the breeze. Ceremonies can be set up on the far left under sea grape trees or on the far right under palm trees. But the real gem at Sapphire is Pretty Klip Point — a narrow strip of land (a jetty) that reaches out into the ocean, surrounding your ceremony on three sides with clear water and small islands in the distance.

Many of my couples get married on the beach and then get photos on the jetty, or vice versa — they're only steps apart. If you don't want sand between your toes but still want sparkling blue water in every photo, Pretty Klip is your spot. After the ceremony, the snorkeling here is fantastic. There's also a beach bar with food, equipment rentals, and a taxi stand.

Limetree Beach St. Thomas at sunset — south-shore west-facing beach for wedding ceremonies
4

Limetree Beach

Limetree sits on the south side of St. Thomas, a convenient 5–6 minute drive from the Westin Frenchman's Reef and Bolongo Bay Beach Resort. Because it faces a westerly direction, Limetree delivers beautiful sunset backdrops — which was why it used to be one of my favorite sunset ceremony venues.

I'll be honest with you, as I always try to be: after the 2017 hurricanes, some of the beach washed away, and you can no longer reach the full rocky cliffs where we used to do most of our ceremonies. Today, I only recommend Limetree if you are staying nearby and want something simple and easy. It's still pretty — it's just not the showstopper it once was. That said, Wyndham Limetree Beach Resort is right there, and Limetree is generally one of the quieter beaches on the island.

Brewers Bay Beach St. Thomas at sunset — west-facing beach with clear horizon views perfect for elopements

Brewers Bay

This is a beach for locals — mainly. A pretty, often sparsely populated stretch on the western side of St. Thomas. And because Brewers faces west, it offers the clearest and most complete view of a sunset of any beach on this list. On a clear day you can even see Vieques, an island off Puerto Rico, in the distance.

It's slightly more remote than the others, which makes it best for small, simple weddings — elopements, couples, and intimate groups with just the basics. The vibe is decidedly relaxed. After the ceremony, two food trucks are usually parked nearby if you're in the mood for a cold beer, a rum punch, or a fried pate. And did I mention it's free? Worth noting: the St. Thomas airport is not too far, so the occasional plane will fly overhead — but if you time the ceremony well, especially at sunset, you'll be just fine.

Private villa wedding venue in St. Thomas USVI — infinity pool and ocean views for destination weddings

Your Resort or Private Villa

I work with every resort on St. Thomas including the Ritz-Carlton, the Westin, the Marriott, Secret Harbour, Sugar Bay, and Bolongo Bay. It's important to note that you don't have to book your wedding through the resort — all beaches in the USVI are public by law, and I can coordinate the ceremony directly with you. But if you do decide to book through a resort, you can always request me as your officiant.

Scattered across the island are world-class vacation villas that take destination weddings to another level entirely. Private infinity pools, ocean views, and the ability to sleep your closest family and friends on-site — villas offer a luxury and intimacy that no ballroom can match. Blue Venues is a great resource for all the villa and event space options across the island. The Wedding House is a personal favorite — a private gated estate with 7 rooms for up to 18 guests, an infinity pool, and its own small beach.

Unique

Private Gardens & 3 Queens Distillery

St. Thomas is most famous for its beaches, but equally awesome is Old Town Charlotte Amalie — one of the most historically rich towns in the entire Caribbean. Weddings don't have to be on the beach. They can be just as beautiful and meaningful surrounded by 350-year-old colonial architecture, cobblestone alleys, and tropical gardens.

I've performed weddings at Fort Christian (a unique experience, though the $1,500 site fee is on the steeper end) and at 3 Queens Distillery and Gardens at 13 Wimmelskafts. The gardens option lets you have your ceremony, enjoy a cocktail reception, and then wander the historic town for post-ceremony photos in amazing colonial alleyways. It's a genuinely unique island wedding experience that very few other venues can offer.

Honeymoon Beach on Water Island near St. Thomas USVI — intimate secluded beach wedding venue

Honeymoon Beach, Water Island

Every famous island has a less-famous sibling. Water Island is St. Thomas's. Just a short boat ride from the main island, Water Island is a quiet, mostly car-free escape that feels a world away — except on cruise ship days. Its main beach — Honeymoon Beach — is a pretty crescent where multiple TV commercials and shows have been filmed, including an episode of Married at First Sight (the officiant was devilishly handsome, if I do say so myself).

If you're staying on Water Island, there's no need to come over to St. Thomas at all — everything you need is right here. A beach bar sits at one end of Honeymoon Beach, so the post-ceremony celebration is built right in. Perfect for couples who want something intimate, private, and genuinely off the beaten path.

🌺 Garden Venue

Villa Botanica

A botanical garden and dedicated event space, Villa Botanica is a lush, tropical venue for couples who want something different from a beach. It's essentially a one-stop shop: ceremony space, covered reception area, in-house catering, and multiple locations across the property to choose from, including tropical trails and covered pavilions.

Villa Botanica can accommodate up to 200 guests, making it one of the best options on the island for larger destination weddings in a tropical setting (as opposed to a hotel ballroom). For any couple wanting garden beauty, rain protection, and full-service on-site support, Villa Botanica is tough to top.

⚠️ The Sargassum Seaweed Guide

Sargassum seaweed has become a real planning consideration for Caribbean weddings. Here's what you need to know for St. Thomas beach ceremonies — and how to plan around it.

Seaweed typically arrives on east-facing beaches around May and lingers through September. West and north-facing beaches are generally far less affected. When seaweed is bad at a particular beach, it's not an option — always verify current conditions with me before confirming your date. But generally, the only beach on this list to worry about is Lindquist.

St. Thomas Wedding Venue FAQ

Questions Island Mike hears every single week — answered honestly.

Beach site fees range from free (Brewers Bay, Limetree) to $250 (Magens Bay, Lindquist Beach). Most public parks also charge $7 per person in guest admission. Sapphire Beach charges $100 for groups of 10 or fewer, $250 for larger groups. These fees are paid to the park or resort and are separate from officiant, photographer, flowers, and decor costs.
Before 11am or after 2pm. The midday Caribbean sun is intense and there is very little shade on most beaches. Morning ceremonies benefit from soft, flattering light. Sunset ceremonies deliver spectacular golden-hour photos. Noon ceremonies are possible and common, but they are just a bit hotter.
Yes — and it's very common. A beach ceremony at Magens Bay, Lindquist, or Sapphire can be completed in 1–2 hours from port, leaving plenty of time to return to the ship. I specialize in cruise ship weddings and can coordinate everything to work around your All-Aboard time. Just let me know your ship and port window when you reach out.
My favorites are Sapphire Beach and Limetree Beach. Brewers Bay is also on the list. That being said, Magens Bay (north-facing) has gorgeous late-afternoon light. Lindquist Beach does not offer sunset views, as the sun sets behind the hills to the west — but it's still beautiful around 5pm.
Sargassum typically affects east-facing beaches like Lindquist from around May through September. When seaweed is bad, Lindquist is not always an option. Magens Bay, Brewers Bay, and Sapphire Beach are generally not affected at all.
If you have a specific, must-do date, book immediately to ensure my availability, venue availability, and vendor availability. Sunset time slots fill fastest. That being said, if you want to get married next week, we can still make it happen — there is technically no minimum amount of time you need to book in advance.
Yes. All beaches in the USVI are public by law. You don't have to book your wedding through the resort. I work with every resort on St. Thomas and can coordinate your beach ceremony directly. If you want the beach at a specific resort, just let me know and I'll handle the notification and coordination with the property.
